Hi, Evelyn here. I would like to tell you about me. My parents got separated when I was only seven years old. Prior to this I witnessed a lot of violence. My dad was not only physically abusive towards my mum but also humiliated her in every way. My mum had very little education, left school at an early age and was totally dependent upon my dad.
As my mum left home, I continued to live with my dad and the violence did not end; it was directed towards us, my brother, especially. This is the way we grew up with not only becoming physically battered but also emotionally affected. As a result, I developed poor self esteem, I was afraid to speak out in public in case I said the wrong words. I suffered from anorexia because I was nervous most of the time; my dad as an alcoholic, with unpredictable mood swings.
At age 11, when I started secondary school education, I left my dad to stay with my mum as he was no longer capable of looking after me. We struggled to make ends meet. We were poverty stricken. I remember at one point, I stayed at home for a number of months because my dad stopped paying my school fees. This affected my performance in school and made me hate school. During my second year in secondary school, I was granted a scholarship which allowed me to complete my secondary school education.
But this was not the end of it all. During my teen and adult life, I faced many rejections. I felt so unloved and I was made to feel second best. Even though I struggled with so many issues, but I was determined to succeed in life. I learnt how to forgive my past hurts, my self and got my self esteem back.
My consistent walk with God has helped me to develop a close-knit relationship with Him. As a passionate writer, I want to encourage people to strive for the best through difficult times. My desire is to inspire people to achieve their God-given destiny for their lives. I am keen on making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children around the world.
